Linda Fredriksson - Juniper

Europe amasses a number of young female saxophonists this past decade. Leading the charge is the fearless free jazz practitioner Anna Högberg from Sweden, Maria Dybbroe from Denmark being a composition tour de force working in both Copehangen and Oslo, and the very up and coming Ornella Oulett from France is carrying the torch of Coltrane-patented spiritual jazz.

Holding up a unique patent is Linda Fredriksson, a Finnish sax woman who takes a songwriter approach on her jazz discourse. Cerebral and cinematic at times, Juniper is a very accessible piece of work that earned her both the Teosto and Jazz Emma awards in 2022.
