Lihane Bahir, the fourth release from visionary Ethiopian artist Kibrom Birhane, is a bold leap into uncharted territory, a wholly analog, synth-based journey that redefines the sonic borders of Ethio-jazz. Anchored around the Studio 110, a massive analog modular synthesizer, the album fuses ancestral Ethiopian musical modes with cosmic, futuristic textures, producing a raw, spiritual sound that is at once ancient and otherworldly. Over the course of two years, Birhane experimented and composed using the Analog modular synth as both an instrument and a sound design tool, resulting in a collection of songs made without any digital instrument.
