Amaro Frietas - Y'Y

Hailing from the Northeastern Brazilian coastal city of Recife, Amaro Freitas is an avant garde visionary. Working with prepared piano, he pays homage to the Amazonia, showing respect to his ancestry and inviting understanding from the outside world.

His percussive jazz piano music in "Y'Y" is contributed by some of the best jazz contemporaries such as Jeff Parker, Shabaka Hutchings and Brandee Younger. Frietas does not dwell on any established rulebooks from the colorful Brazilian music palette, instead he implants as diversely as possible the modern day jazz dialogue in what could very well be a refreshed perspective into the social habitats of Amazonia.
